MIAMI, United States. – Former Republican president Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States for the second time, after defeating the current vice president, Kamala Harris, candidate of the Democratic Party, in a tight race.

In this way, Trump becomes the second political leader in the history of the United States to be elected president after a failed re-election attempt (in 2020).

The Republican’s victory was consolidated in the crucial “hinge states”—Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin—where he obtained a sufficient advantage to secure the 270 electoral votes necessary to return to the White House.

The celebration of his electoral victory took place at the Palm Beach Convention Center, in Florida, where Trump, surrounded by family, advisors and supporters, gave his first speech as president-elect. “We won a historic political victory,” he said before a crowd of supporters.

This will be the second time that Trump assumes the US presidency, having led the country between 2017 and 2021, and will now return as the 47th president in US history.

This Tuesday’s result represents a turn for the Republican Partywhich not only recovers the Executive Power but also control of the Senate. In this way, the future Trump administration will face fewer obstacles in its legislative proposals, which could facilitate the implementation of its agenda.

The Democratic defeat marks a significant setback compared to the 2020 elections, when Joe Biden He managed to win in several of these key states that now turned to the Republican side. Biden, who decided not to run for a second term after a disappointing performance in the debates, ceded the nomination to Harris, but the vice president failed to retain support in the swing states (hinge states) that had been decisive in the last election.

International reactions: between support and caution

Trump’s return to the White House has not gone unnoticed in the international arena, where leaders from various countries expressed their opinions. From Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was one of the first to react and congratulated Trump, calling his return “the greatest comeback in history.” Netanyahu emphasized that this victory opens “a new beginning for the United States and a renewed alliance with Israel,” recalling the strong ties both countries forged during the first Trump administration.

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, also showed willingness to work with Trump within the framework of a more united and stronger Europe. “We are going to work for a more united, stronger and more sovereign Europe in this new context,” Macron said on social networks.

On the other hand, in Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz congratulated Trump and assured that both countries will continue working for prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. Trump’s re-election also raises concerns among European allies, who fear that NATO and support for Ukraine could lose strength under a new Republican administration.

Not all global leaders reacted with the same enthusiasm. In Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made it clear that President Vladimir Putin has no immediate plans to congratulate Trump, stressing that it is still necessary to wait for “concrete actions” before issuing an official assessment.

In Latin America, several political figures expressed their support for Trump. The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, congratulated the “elected president of the United States” through his social networks and expressed his wish that “God bless and guide him.” Meanwhile, the Argentine president, Javier Milei, celebrated Trump’s election as a “formidable electoral victory” and was optimistic about the collaboration between both countries.

In contrast, the position of other countries was more reserved. From Iran, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani indicated that “there are no significant differences” regarding who assumes the presidency in the US, emphasizing that Iran has already taken advance measures against any change of leadership in Washington. “The election of the American president has no relationship with Iran,” declared Mohajerani, ensuring that his country’s position will remain unchanged.

From Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky also sent his congratulations and recalled his joint commitment with Trump in the search for a “just peace” for Ukraine. Zelensky expressed confidence that the Trump administration will continue to support his nation, highlighting the “peace through strength” approach promoted by Trump.
