Venezuela addresses regional challenges at Brasilia Consensus meeting

The heads of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the country, Yván Gil and Vladimir Padrino López, respectively, participated in the II Meeting of Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Brasilia Consensus.

“In this meeting, we address the challenges facing our region, from poverty and the climate crisis to external interference, always prioritizing the sovereignty and development of our people,” he reported in his social networks Chancellor Gil.

Brasilia Consensus

The Brasilia Consensus It is made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Türkiye, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The mechanism was formed in May 2023, during the meeting of leaders of the 12 countries, in Brasilia, and they reaffirmed their commitment to establish a regular dialogue to promote regional integration.

It is based on dialogue, respect for diversity, commitment to democracy and human rights, defense of sovereignty and respect for the independence of each State.

The Brasilia Consensus body is flexible, without headquarters, and with a limited agenda. One of its provisions is the establishment of six-month pro tempore presidencies, which rotate alphabetically.
