Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and TV Brasilfrom the Brazilian Communications Company (EBC), were targets of fraudulent actions by creators and propagators of false information (Fake News).Minister Cármen Lúcia and TV Brasil are targets of fake news

Excerpts from an interview that the minister gave to the program Letters Trailwhich the public broadcaster aired on September 11, were modified and published on the world wide web in the form of a text that tries to convince readers that Cármen recommended that people invest in cryptocurrencies, through a certain company.

Originally, the minister, who also presides over the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), spoke with presenter Eliana Alves about literature and her passion for books. According to the fraudulent text, published in a website which simulates a journalistic news portal, Cármen would have revealed his financial investment secrets, recommending the use of the platform Immediate Luminary.

Still according to the fraudulent text, the minister’s “involuntary revelation” “awakened a wave of reactions among spectators” and, due to the content of her statements, the minister was being sued by the “National Bank of Brazil” [sic]. The text is practically the same as the one that, some time ago, attributed the same statements to the former STF minister, Joaquim Barbosa, and which can still be found on the internet, associated with the same Immediate Luminary.

THE Brazil Agency did not identify any official registration of the platform, but, in website Complain Herethere are complaints registered by people who claim to have invested with the company after reading about it on the internet.

In a note, the EBC states that the program Letters Trail and the minister were targets of false news that “distorts the facts” and continues to circulate on the internet. “THE EBC vehemently repudiates the episode and works to combat misinformation in all its vehicles”, states the public company, reinforcing that, by participating in the programming of the TV Brasil“Cármen Lúcia showed her writer side and presented her book Rights for Allin addition to its relationship with literature and other writers”, making no mention of cryptocurrencies, in full of the interview, available on the internet, proves it.

Presenter Eliana Alves said that she and the program and television team EBC were astonished to learn of the Fake News involving the participation of the minister in the Letters Trail. “We know that these things are widespread in society, all kinds of misinformation, lies and falsehoods, but it is always shocking when we see our names involved in such low things. The dialogue [forjado] never happened and would never happen. The form of presentation [do texto]It’s actually very poorly done. [Mesmo assim]there is a portion of the population that tends to believe and disseminate this type of content”, declared Eliana, arguing that misinformation must be combatted with quality information.

“We would never establish a dialogue like that, which has no place. And, in fact, the news is somewhat copied from another, very similar, which [envolveu] happened to the minister [da Fazenda] Fernando Haddad. In other words, whoever has a little bit of acuity, of care, and looks, sees that it is a very crude replication”, concluded the presenter.
