The announcement will be made this Tuesday afternoon. González obtained 2,761 votes with list 1616 in the internal elections, and his accession represents a new step in Orsi’s strategy of attracting support outside the Frente Amplio, focused on the Colorado electorate in view of an eventual second round.
The former candidate was part of the Ojeda sublemma, who was elected senator along with the Colorados Robert Silva and Gustavo Zubía. However, the support for the Broad Front candidate generated angry reactions among his coreligionists, who questioned González’s political weight and described her as having “few votes.”
Incorporation of Víctor Björgan to the security team
González’s announcement comes a week after Orsi revealed the addition of Víctor Björgan to his security team. Björgan, current Director of Cooperation in the Secretariat of State Strategic Intelligence and a figure close to the historic leader Wilson Ferreira Aldunate and the National Rocha Movement of Carlos Julio Pereyra, joins the campaign after direct management by Orsi. His experience and link with figures from the National Party reinforce the candidate’s line of work to build bridges with traditional parties.
Orsi’s strategy towards the runoff
From the Orsi campaign command, it is highlighted that these types of alliances reflect his “capacity for dialogue” and his ability to “build bridges” with figures and voters from other political forces. For the Frente Amplio, capturing a significant portion of the Colorado electorate is a priority with a view to the runoff, and the incorporation of González and Björgan seeks to convey a message of openness.
