This morning that sum was criticized by President Claudia Sheinbaum, who urged economization.
The counselor explained: “we do not have a reference that gives us the margin of budgeting, we only have the reference of the electoral processes of the Executive and Legislative branches.”
He admitted that the definition of the geographical framework is still lacking, which, counselor Dania Ravel previously explained, serves to trigger all the tasks that the INE will have to carry out, but that is precisely why it was budgeted – he maintained – with “prudence.”
Meanwhile, the advisor of the Legislative Branch and deputy of Morena, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, asked the INE to consider options to have “more economical” elections and generate conditions of “greater austerity.”
INE budget shoots up
The INE will request spending for 27,269 million pesos, and endorsed that the precautionary budget for the eventual extraordinary election of judges, ministers and magistrates, will be for 13,205 million pesos, so in 2025 the INE will request the largest budget in its entire history. , 40,474 million pesos.
The spending proposal, however, is not definitive, since the precautionary budget is only exercised if a judicial election or a popular consultation must be held, for which another 4,621 million pesos were provided on a precautionary basis.
The INE will act as the base budget and its project portfolio of 15,295.8 million pesos.
To this will be added 7,354 million pesos for the financing of the six political parties in 2025; the precautionary measure of the eventual popular consultation for 4,621 and 13,205 million pesos for a possible extraordinary electoral process for judicial positions.
In an extraordinary session, the INE had to approve its spending proposal now, since the Ministry of Finance imposed tomorrow, November 5, as a limit to receive the budget projects of all public entities, powers of the Union and autonomous organizations.
In the session, counselor Jaime Rivera established that given the date established by the Treasury “we have no alternatives despite the fact that it is an unprecedented process (that of judicial election) and still overshadowed by legal uncertainty.”
