Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) this Monday increased the alert to several provinces in the country due to the meteorological report issued by the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET).

According to this Monday’s bulletin, since the early hours of the morning there have been increases in cloudiness that have caused moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and gusts of wind in various regions of the country.

The provinces on yellow alert are: Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Barahona, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samaná, Dajabón, Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, La Altagracia, Pedernales.

And those that are on green alert are: Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, La Vega, San Cristóbal, La Romana, San Juan, Independencia, Monte Cristi, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, San José de Ocoa, Peravia, Bahoruco, Elías Piña .

The COE explained that these conditions are due to the presence of a trough at different levels of the troposphere in the northwest of the country, along with the indirect influence of potential cyclone #18 and the warm wind coming from the south/southeast.

The authorities have recommended that the population remain alert and take precautions against possible floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
