Last Sunday, November 3, the Wide Front of Uruguay held a significant event on the Montevideo promenade, where the presidential ticket composed of Yamandú Orsi and Carolina Cosse addressed an enthusiastic crowd. With a “banderazo” that called thousands of voters to wave flags in the wind, an event that served to consolidate the key messages of the campaign towards second round of elections scheduled for November 24.

Yamandu Orsiin a measured and prudent tone, began his speech by remembering the emblematic Danilo Astoriformer Minister of Economy and former Vice President, and highlighted that this week marks one year since his death. “We tell Danilo and all his people that we will know how to achieve the stability that our country deserves”, expressed Orsi, pointing out that the Frente Amplio is committed to being the “safe change” that Uruguay needs. His speech focused on promising transformations that not only maintain, but also improve the quality of life of Uruguayans, ensuring that salaries and pensions are sufficient to make ends meet.

Orsi emphasized the achievements of the Frente-Amplista administrations previous ones, such as Plan Ceibal, which transformed education through technology, and the National Care System and health reform, which significantly improved the quality of life of many Uruguayans. He alluded to his management in the Canelones Municipalitymentioning that when he took office, The apartment “was a ruin”and who, throughout his mandate, managed to transform it significantly.

Cosse raises the tone of hope with a view to the second round

For her part, Carolina Cosse focused her speech on the problems of the health system, criticizing that Uruguayans who seek medical attention face constant rejections, from the lack of medicines to the absence of specialists. He highlighted the “discontent” of the population caused by job instability and the difficulty in making ends meet, and advocated for a “Uruguay of work” that guarantees decent conditions for all.

The flag day was also an opportunity to celebrate the October 27 election resultswhere the Frente Amplio demonstrated its presence throughout the territory, including towns such as Curtina, where its proposal was the winner. Orsi emphasized his commitment to maintaining the country’s economic stability, once again mentioning Astori as a symbol of this commitment.

Likewise, Orsi and Cosse advocated the importance of public education as a tool for social transformation, remembering the historic social protection laws and highlighting that for 40 years Uruguay has been a bastion of democracy. Orsi closed his speech by calling for respect for those who have different opinions, emphasizing that tranquility and respect are essential to move forward as a society.
