Currently fifth in the Series B standings, Ceará scored 2-0 at Avaí on Sunday night (3) and remains firmly in the fight to return to the elite of Brazilian football. With the victory at Arena Castelão, in Fortaleza, Vozão totaled 57 points, two less than Mirassol (4th place) and Sport (5th). Avaí continues with 46 points, in 11th place, with three rounds to go before the end of the competition. Only the top four will move up to Serie A next year.
Vozão’s rivals in the fight for access will still enter the field this week in the 35th round. Sport visits Operário this Monday (4), at 7pm (Brasília time), in Ponta Grossa (PR). Mirassol closes the round playing at home against Coritiba, at 9:30 pm on Tuesday (5).

Ceará looked for a goal more at the beginning of the first half, but failed to finish. Over time, Avaí became more proactive, with a good exchange of passes. In the 24th minute, after a corner kick, Hygor headed the ball against the crossbar, and on the rebound Rodrigo Santos opened the scoring for the Santa Catarina team. However, after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to Rodrigo being offside. Vozão remained committed to the attack, but without effectiveness.

After the break, the story of the game was different. More creative, Ceará opened the scoring in the 12th minute. After a perfect cross from Argentine Lucas Mugni, top scorer Erick Pulga filled the net. It was his 12th goal in the competition. Ten minutes later, after a cross inside the area, Hygor wasted an incredible chance to equalize. Afterwards, number 10 Mugni took advantage of Saulo Mineiro’s great pass to shoot the ball past goalkeeper César, and extend Ceará’s victory to 2-0. After the second goal, Vozão managed the advantage until the final whistle.
