The vocalist of the cumbia group “Hermanos Guerrero”, Thalía Manrique Castillo, died early this Sunday, when she was being transferred to the Santiago Apóstol hospital, in Bagua Grande, in the Amazonas region, after being shot in an assault in the bus where she met other members of the orchestra.
According to what one of the victims told a local media, said group was on a bus that was going on the highway to Ñunya Jalca and at 5 in the morning they were intercepted by six criminals who took possession of the instruments and money of the presentation. After that, they shot while fleeing and thus caused the death of Manrique Castillo.
On social networks, the orchestra issued a statement and indicated that the young artist was injured after the assault after her return from a presentation they gave at an educational institution in the San Martín de Porres town center in the province of Utcubamba.
“We regret to inform our followers and family of Hermanos Guerrero that, after the event in San Martin de Porres, in Bagua, there was an assault on our group in which our singer Thalía Manrique Castillo was seriously injured.“said the group.
It was learned that the 27-year-old singer was helped and taken to the Santiago Apóstol hospital, however, her death was later confirmed. Their challenges were taken to the Utcubamba morgue for the corresponding examinations. Thalía Manrique leaves a nine-year-old boy orphaned.
One of the representatives of “Hermanos Guerrero” told how the events occurred in the assault on the bus where the cumbia orchestra was traveling.
“The event ended at 3 in the morning. There were about five or six assailants. We couldn’t see them. They took the payment for the orchestra and other instruments. We were lying on the floor. A man entered the bus and that is where the shots were fired and my partner was injured.“, said the member of the group to the portal Amazon.com
“Thalia was on the bus. Some gentlemen make us get down and there the shots are fired. Thalía is chosen to be shot inside the bus (…) We ask the authorities for justice. She was a young woman who had a lot ahead of her.”, he added through tears.
