Once again dialysis patients who are cared for in the unit of the Venezuelan Social Security Institute (IVSS) of the Santos Dominicci hospital in Carúpano, denounced the terrible conditions in which the service is found and that unfortunately affects the care they receive and consequently their health status.
Nelkys Martínez, a patient at that facility for a year and eight months, reported that 15 days ago the unit was contaminated with a sewage spill that came out through the ceiling, the toilets on the floor, everywhere, and they had to close it for six days without taking into account the urgency of the treatment that some of these patients who are already in poor condition must receive.
As a result of the closure, there were patients who decompensated and a young woman, 25 years old, could not stand it and died of a heart attack due to the decompensation she suffered during that period.
He explained that they fumigated, fixed and opened again, but this Thursday the patients returned to receive the treatment and they couldn’t because the room collapsed again.

He complained that there are no responses from the authorities, who promised to buy some tubes, which never appeared. “The ones that are there are useless, they are broken, patched and the roof looks damaged, wet with dirty water.”

He said the situation is horrible. “We need help because we are alone and we have the right to life. “We are tired of talking.”
In this sense, he said that They decided to make the situation public so that they could help them and find a place.with the appropriate conditions, where they can receive their treatment.
He specified that today, Friday, the room is not adequate and they do not know how many days the new cleaning and conditioning can take. Meanwhile, the disease progresses and they continue to decompensate.
The current patient population is made up of 38 people in the hemodialysis area and 10 more in the peritoneal dialysis area.
