The releases of common prisoners continue to increase in Nicaragua. The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo revealed that on November 2, All Souls’ Day in Nicaragua, a new group of prisoners will be released under the family coexistence regime.

Rosario Murillo, vice dictator of Nicaragua, in her usual speech, detailed that the new released group will be 1,500 people; 1,391 men and 109 women. With this group, so far in 2024, the regime adds a total of 7,600 releases.

The Ortega-Murillo dictatorship has used the celebrations of Mother’s Day (1,500) as an excuse for the release of common prisoners; the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution (1,500); and the National Holidays last September (1,600).

The criminal recidivism rate of these people released by the regime, according to data revealed at the beginning of this month by Senior Commissioner Julio Orozco, director of the National Penitentiary System (SPN), is 8 percent, that is, 8 out of every 100 of these released prisoners commit crimes again and return to the country’s prisons.

Taking into account the data revealed by Chief Commissioner Orozco and the number of releases of common prisoners carried out by the regime of these 1,500 released, at least 120 released prisoners would return to the streets to commit crimes and, in the event that the authorities manage to arrest them again, they would return. to prison in the different prisons of Nicaragua.

The Sandinista deputies and their stilt collaborators in the National Assembly, who operate at the service of the dictatorship, approved the controversial General Law of Convergent Telecommunications, a regulation questioned by different social actors because it increases control over landline and cellular telephone services and even , forces operating companies to serve as spies for the dictatorship.

The bill was sent to parliament last March and since then it was supposedly in consultation, until this Thursday when the 91 deputies that make up the Legislature unanimously approved said regulations.

Among the most controversial points of the new Law, the obligation that it imposes on companies operating landline, cell phone and internet services to provide the State (Police) with information on their users, which even includes their location, stands out.

This provision is what has put opposition organizations and human rights defenders on alert, because by having access to all this information the repressive forces of the dictatorship could increase their repressive actions, surveillance and location against people adverse to the regime of the Ortega-Murillo.

The new Nicaraguan Company for the Dredging of the San Juan River, with which the dictatorship says it will clean the entire tributary, from its source in Lake Nicaragua to its mouth, in the Caribbean Sea, does not even have a definition in its creating law. in its regulations, a source of financing, according to a review of the General Budget of the Republic (PGR), submitted for approval in the National Assembly this week.

On August 28, the Sandinista National Assembly approved Law 1213, through which the Nicaraguan Company for the Dredging of the San Juan River was created. This Law came into effect on September 2, with its publication in the Official Gazette La Gaceta. , number 162.

The Law only has eight articles. In the second article it establishes that “the Nicaraguan San Juan River Dredging Company is created as a decentralized Public Company, with technical, administrative and financial autonomy, under the control of the State of Nicaragua, with legal personality and its own assets.”

Law 1213 establishes that the new state company is autonomous but under the “sectoral governance” of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI). It is not established that the MTI will allocate a budget item for the created entity.
