After meeting with Edmundo González, chancellor of Italy says that Maduro lost elections

Edmundo González Urrutia pointed out on his social networks that Antonio Tajani made it clear that the situation in Venezuela is a priority for Italy

Edmundo González Urrutia, presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform, met this Thursday, October 21, with Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

After the meeting, Tajani maintained that Nicolás Maduro did not win the presidential elections of July 28. «No one recognizes the electoral result because, clearly, Maduro lost. “He did not want to accept any comparison with independent observers.”

The Italian official believes that he should return to the issue of the Venezuelan situation after the elections and attend to the political prisoners: “Enough of the violent repression.” In addition, he referred to González Urrutia as “president.”

Antonio Tajani also said that they are in favor of sanctions against Maduro’s officials, but not for the people.

According to Edmundo González Urrutia, who has been asylum in Spain since September, during the meeting with Tjani there was “a deep conversation about the crisis of freedom and democracy in Venezuela.”

González Urrutia noted on his social networks that “Tajani made it clear that the situation in Venezuela is a priority for his government, which observes with great concern the deterioration of fundamental rights and violations of democratic principles in the country.”

In this sense, he reported that the repression against opponents was also addressed and the alarming number of arrests after the presidential elections on July 28, which exceed 2,000, “many of which have generated concern at the international level.”

Edmundo González Urrutia reported that, in addition, the conversation with the official dealt with the case of imprisoned people with Italian nationality, “who in many cases do not even know the reasons for their detention. “These arrests without clear justification are a serious indicator of the erosion of individual freedoms in Venezuela.”

He stated that Tajani ratified his commitment to continue working from his position to promote the return of freedom and democracy in Venezuela.
