The first findings of the study that will be carried out after the signing of this agreement will be presented on November 26 within the framework of the National Trade Day, which will be celebrated with an event at the Eurobuilding Hotel in Caracas
The National Council of Commerce and Services (Consecomercio) and Atenas Consulting Group signed an agreement this Thursday, October 31, with which they plan to collect data on the sector, related to consumption, trends and the state of business.
The signing was carried out by the president of Consecomercio, Gustavo Valecillos and the director of Atenas Grupo, Pedro Quintana, The first findings of the surveys they will carry out will be presented on November 26 within the framework of the National Day of Commerce and Services and the 54 years of the creation of this chamber.
The commercial sector does not foresee further expansion for this year. The president of Consecomercio indicated that until the second quarter the growth was between 2% and 3%, which he described as “quite shy” and very similar to last year.
The union reported that they will have several activities that day at the Eurobuilding Hotel, where they will present a musical show by the Club New York, with a tribute to the British band Queen, the presentation of the Women in the Automotive World project, led by the former president by Consecomercio Tiziana Polesel. Tickets to the event will be available through MakeTicket.
“These processes take several months. The objective of Atenas Consulting Group, which was created four years ago thinking about the needs of companies, seeks to evaluate consumption behavior in multiple categories. For now, we measure 12 mass consumption baskets and 140 categories,” said Pedro Quintana.
In the opinion of Atenas Group, unions must know what is happening in economic activity, what is demanded in the market, because these indicators can strengthen the sector and contribute to making better decisions.
Jairo Bracho, managing partner of Macro Consultores, the firm that carries out studies for Conindustria and other business associations, expressed that preparing data is important, as this allows them to have a perspective on the evolution of the business, remunerations, problems and also strengths. .
Among the items that Atenas Group measures are: food, medicine, dairy, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, paints, hardware stores, supermarkets, independent chain pharmacies, liquor stores, among others.
About inspections
The president of Consecomercio said that they are being monitored and pointed out by some sectors, due to the rise of the dollar. «This is not just a problem for merchants, but for all Venezuelans. “The BCV authorities should be concerned about this gap because it has created distortions in the market.” In addition, they indicated that they did not have data on businesses fined.
Likewise, he added that merchants must look for solutions that allow them to survive and replenish inventories and that every measure they take is valid. “It is not a reason for speculation, it is subsistence, because an overvalued currency favors imports and there are many products that have been exempt for several years,” said Gustavo Valecillos.
Finally, he said that in all the approaches with the authorities they expose the problems, which he mentioned are transversal to the entire country, among those difficulties, he cited informality, fiscal pressure, failures in public services and lack of financing.
