Toys made with chemicals that could harm children’s health were camouflaged with health labels that did not contain any information, in addition to dozens of sweets whose expiration date had expired were also destroyed inside important candy stores in the city of Huancayo. This could be observed in an unexpected operation that took place yesterday morning, as a prelude to the Halloween celebrations.

Entities such as the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) Junín, the Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office and the State Security Unit of the National Police of Peru (PNP) in Huancayo, carried out an unexpected operation on the confectioneries located in the first and second block of Cajamarca extension, which is very popular with merchants, winemakers and others to stock up on sweets, toys and more.

“We are carrying out the last phase of our campaign for the Halloween festivities, which are unexpected inspection operations. “It has been evident that some products do not have the health authorization label, which for us as a health sector is the only thing that guarantees that this product is suitable for handling and consumption by minors,” said the regional coordinator of the Toys and Stationery Program of Diresa Junín, Roxana Arce Cañari.

According to the inspectors of this operation, as a result of the awareness campaigns, during this year’s Halloween festivities, the marketing of toys such as pumpkins and masks that are harmful to children was reduced by 50%.

“In each commercial establishment, the amount seized has decreased by 50%. “We know that these types of products have chemical substances and exceed the permissible limits, they would already be harmful to children,” Arce Cañari added.

Another unexpected operation was announced today in the rest of the confectioneries in the province. The majority of seized products were found in the warehouse of the establishments, but it is not guaranteed that they were not sold. Before purchasing a product, it is recommended to verify the validity of the health labels.
