The 48-hour strike called in San Francisco de Macorís (SFM), Duarte province, by a group of popular organizations demanding works and services for the municipality was lifted this Tuesday morning, after a meeting between the organizers and the senator Franklin Romero.
During the meeting, the legislator promised to manage the construction of some of the infrastructure works demanded by the protesters.
«I committed to listening to them and giving them some things that can be done immediately; I’m even taking on some of them on a personal basis, like a community center and other things,” he said. Rosemary.
For his part, José Mercado, spokesperson for the collective of popular organizations, valued the disposition shown by the official and highlighted that he had fulfilled his promises on previous occasions.
“On one occasion when we reached agreements, the senator was one of those who complied in a percentage, and what he did not comply with, at least they criticized themselves in the Senate,” Mercado said.
Protesters also rejected prolonged blackouts, high electricity bills and poor water supply.
