The recent election day has left a disappointing panorama for Open Town Hallled by Guido Manini Ríos. With a result that did not meet initial expectations, the party managed to secure just two seats in the Deputies, while it will not even have a presence in the Senate.

In an audio directed to his followers, Irene Moreirasenator and prominent figure in the party, addressed Sunday’s elections with a message of gratitude towards the militancy. Despite the low vote, Moreira highlighted the strength and perseverance of the team, who toured the country in support of the ultraconservative party’s proposal. Her absence from the central event with Manini Ríos was due to a health problem that forced her to rest, she said.

In his message, Moreira said that “Everyone with Manini” It was the group with the most votes within the Cabildo Abierto internal group. He stressed the merit of collective effort and recognized disappointment at not having obtained a greater number of votes. The senator described the result as “a bucket of cold water,” although she also considered it a start to continue working for the party’s vision.

The challenges for a party in CTI

In 2019, CA had been the surprise and captured so many votes that it was placed as the fourth political force with 11.46% of the votes, less than one point below Ernesto Talvi, of the Colorado Party, who had made one of the worst votes of that political force in decades.

Now, with only two lobbying deputies, Moreira reflects on what happened, trying to emphasize that, in any case, they captured two seats in the House of Representatives. The former Minister of Housing, who resigned from her position after the scandal over houses given to members of her party, understands that this “is not an end” for the party, and advocated for unity.

“This did not end here, on the contrary. There is an old phrase that says: ‘those you kill enjoy good health.’ Well they wanted to kill us, they wanted to kill mebut we have proven that we have very good health to continue fighting for Guidohis ideals and his true artistic vision,” Moreira considered in the audio, broadcast in the first instance by journalist Diego Martini.

These statements come after a year of tensions and internal disagreements, especially with Eduardo Radaelli, leader of the Space of Free Peoples, who had confrontations with Manini Ríos since the creation of the party.

The Open Council strategy in the right-wing coalition

In the context of the negotiations for the development of a government program towards the runoff, Manini Ríos emphasized the relevance of Cabildo Abierto within the coalition. According to him, the party continues to have considerable weight, even with fewer votes than five years ago, given the need to achieve a close result.

During meetings with ruling parties, Manini Ríos expressed his intention to include priority topics in the program such as security policies, drug management, support for microbusinesses and debt restructuring. He insisted on the importance of hearing the Open Council proposals and stressed the need for an effective multiparty agreement before the campaign for the November runoff.

The leader of Cabildo Abierto expressed the urgency of increasing actions on prevention and education on drug issues, and advocated for changes that ensure a fairer system in terms of debts. These issues, along with support for Álvaro Delgado, are fundamental in their strategic planning for the next steps in the electoral process.
