Relatives of journalist Nelin Escalante expressed their concern about the “serious” pathologies suffered by the communicator, who was detained on the afternoon of Friday, October 25. His daughter, Oriana Escalante, assured that none of the security agency headquarters they have visited have given them information about her father.

This Wednesday, October 30, Oriana Escalante expressed her concern to the media about the state of health of her father who, she commented, suffers from serious pathologies. He expressed that his family group is “destroyed” after the arrest of the communicator.
Speaking to the media, the journalist’s daughter indicated that she knows nothing about him despite the searches they have carried out at different security forces headquarters in Caracas. He pointed out that until now the reasons why the communicator was detained are unknown.
On October 28, Moisés Gutiérrez, lawyer for the Coalition for Human Rights and Democracy, went to the Palace of Justice to introduce a Habeas Corpus in favor of the journalist. Gutiérrez reported that after waiting for more than eight hours at the headquarters, he was notified that “they had instructions to not receive Habeas Corpus.
The lawyer explained that they presume that Nelin Escalante is imprisoned at the main headquarters of the Dgcim, but “we cannot affirm this, since the defense body nor the family have been able to have access to him.”
The lawyer told reporters that the case is “a flagrant violation of the right to defense, the right of any citizen to access a natural judge and due process.”
