Rector of the UCV disseminates a survey to find out about the food safety of workers

The UCV seeks to know data from teachers and other staff to explore the reality in which they live within the Venezuelan environment

The rector of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), Víctor Rago, disseminated a survey on social networks to learn about the food security situation, the diversity of diet and the use of medicines to treat chronic diseases by academic staff, employees and workers at that university.

In addition to asking for identity and residence information, questions are asked about how many people make up your family unit, whether you have children or not, whether you are already retired and how many years of service you gave to the UCV; just as they ask what faculty he belonged to.

He wonders if he receives monetary help from family or friends and if it comes from Venezuela or abroad. They also seek to know how many days a week you eat foods that you don’t like or that you don’t eat regularly, if you have asked for food, reduced portions to eat, or if you stopped eating them on specific days.

The UCV wants to investigate if the workers have had to sell personal products to eat or if they had to do something risky to obtain food; if they receive the CLAP or if they have been able to buy it and the frequency at which the bag arrives.

They ask questions about how many days you ate carbohydrates, legumes, dairy products, animal proteins, vegetables, fruits, fats, spices, you eat per week and whether or not you are able to eat a balanced diet. Added to this is knowing how many meals you eat per day and if you have lost weight in the last 12 months.

The survey collects data on the chronic conditions that UCV workers may suffer from, whether they have access to medications to control them, how they obtain them, and whether they impact the purchase of food. They also ask if he used GoFundMe campaigns for this.

Hours of sleep a day, the emotion that predominates in each person, if they suffer from anxiety and how they recreate themselves.

Before starting classes, The University Observatory determined that 32% of professors eat less than three times a day; as happens in the student sector, although the percentage is 21%. Remember that 94% of teachers eat the same or worse than in 2022, as well as 81% of students.

Meanwhile, to mid october, Susana Raffalli, nutrition advisor for Cáritas Venezuela, indicated that, despite a slight improvement in the food supply and the situation of many families, 17% of the Venezuelan population continues to suffer from undernourishment or hunger. This figure represents approximately five million people, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Raffalli then explained that undernourishment is measured not only by families’ access to food, but also by the country’s ability to supply itself with national products. He noted that the situation remains serious, especially for the most vulnerable sectors, such as children and women.

The teachers and workers of the UCV recently urged the administration of Nicolás Maduro to take measures to increase the minimum wage and set it at $200 while the salary of bonuses is corrected; since the minimum wage has remained stagnant at 130 bolivars for two years.
