National Labor Council did not reach an agreement regarding the increase in the minimum wage, according to Minister Daniel Maurate

This Tuesday afternoon, the meeting of the National Council of Labor and Employment Promotion (CNTPE) was held, where they spoke about the technical proposals of workers, businessmen and the government to evaluate the increase in the Minimum Living Remuneration.

After the meeting, the Minister of Labor, Daniel Maurate, stated that an agreement was reached on the increase, leaving this decision to the Executive.

Despite all the efforts they have made, and also the will that I have seen in the employers’ workers, unfortunately we have not been able to reach an agreement. Therefore, the duty of increasing the minimum vital remuneration (RMV) remains with the Executive. Now, the issue has already ended in the National Labor Council, the constitutional mandate has been fulfilled”, maintained Maurate.

Enter the sphere of the Executive, where the decision will be made. I will have to communicate this to the President of the Republic. (…) Surely, in due course, the president will make the announcement”he added.

The president of Confiep, Alfredo Bustamante, also spoke about the future of the increase in the minimum wage.

Unfortunately, there has been no agreement between the parties. The employer sector does not consider that the review of the minimum wage is timely at this time because we are coming from a recessionary period. The last increase was in 2022 and, since that, we have had a recession”, he said.

The minimum remuneration is linked to small and medium-sized companies. Large companies hardly pay minimum wage”he added.

On Thursday, October 17, the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) organized a demonstration at 3:30 in the afternoon in Plaza San Martín. This mobilization not only demanded the initial increase of the minimum wage to S/ 1,330, but also asked the government to adopt measures in response to the most relevant current situations.

The platform of the mobilization is to demand from the current regime effective actions to defend life and against crime and criminality, increase of the RMV, respect for the right to work and the right to freedom of association.”, CGTP sources told Infobae Perú.
