Petroperú worker unions have announced a 48-hour strike in response to the delay by President Dina Boluarte’s government in appointing new members of the state company’s board of directors, after a month and a half of waiting. The measure, according to union leaders, is a prelude to a possible indefinite general strike if their demands are not met.
Given this announcement, Petroperú issued a statement reaffirming its respect for union organizations and the right to representation of its workers. The company called on its employees to keep their jobs, emphasizing that fuel supply is essential for the country’s economy.
In this sense, Petroperú urged that the stoppages not be carried out for issues that do not comply with collective labor regulations and that could have negative consequences for the company and the country in general.
The unions, for their part, argue that the delay in the appointment of the board of directors generates uncertainty in the company and hinders key decisions for the development and job stability of its employees.
The lack of a formal management structure, they say, directly affects Petroperú’s operations and efficiency, in a context where the energy sector faces significant challenges.
