Santo Domingo. – The twenty-sixth Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2024) will once again present the Imagination Pavilion, which debuted in the last edition and immediately became one of the main attractions of the event, which this year will be held from November 7 to 17 at the Juan Pablo Duarte Plaza de la Cultura.
Following its success, this innovative pavilion returns with an immersive and technological proposal that will allow attendees to enter literary worlds through the metaverse, as well as discover the most recent scientific and technological advances, with a focus on creativity and innovation. .
FILSD 2024 will pay tribute to Dominican writer Mateo Morrison, winner of the 2010 National Literature Award, and will have Washington Heights, home of the largest Dominican community in the United States, as a special guest.
Under the motto “Books connect”, FILSD 2024 seeks to reflect how reading unites us not only with our roots, but also with other cultures and with ourselves, according to statements by the Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán.
A digital world
The Imagination Pavilion promises to be an avant-garde experience, where the fusion between technology and creativity will transport visitors to literary and scientific universes.
At the heart of this space, the successful experience of the metaverse will be repeated, an immersive proposal that will allow attendees to interact with emblematic characters from various literary works, such as “Alice in Wonderland”, “Don Quixote”, “The Little Prince”. ” and “Moby Dick.”
This activity, which combines virtual reality and interactive narrative, is ideal for both young people and adults interested in exploring new forms of reading and entertainment.
The pavilion will also become a technological exhibition center, with the participation of important educational institutions, such as the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), the Santo Domingo Technological Institute (INTEC), the Ibero-American University (UNIBE), the Pedro University Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM).
These institutions will exhibit some of their most advanced projects in areas such as mechatronics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and robotics, connecting academic knowledge with practical applications.
ITLA will present a sign language translator based on augmented reality and a rehabilitation system for hands with neurological injuries, while INTEC will highlight its advances in space exploration with the ROVER robot, winner of the NASA Human Exploration Challenge 2024.
For its part, UNPHU will exhibit its National Brain Bank, which uses virtual reality technology for neuroscience research, and PUCMM will offer demonstrations of interactive robotic arms.
In addition, the pavilion will include technological innovations for entertainment, such as the hologram of the fair’s official mascot, FIL Artificial Intelligence, created through a motion capture process, which will be projected through the company’s Holo-Fan technology. Tecnosonido company.
Talks and conferences
As part of the pavilion’s educational offering, various talks and conferences will be held between 10:00 am and 11:00 am, and from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, throughout the ten days of the fair.
These activities will revolve around key topics from the technological and scientific world, addressing everything from advances in neuroscience applied to artificial intelligence to the uses of virtual reality in the educational and social field.
