The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) of Costa Rica managed to identify, locate and order raids and arrest operations, this Tuesday, October 29, against four suspects of participating in the shooting attack against the exiled opponent in Costa Rica Joao Maldonado and his partner, Nadia Robleto.
The director of the OIJ, Randall Zúñiga, in a televised appearance, indicated that they have managed to locate four of the suspects and consequently ordered three raid operations in different parts of the Costa Rican territories to try to capture those accused of trying to assassinate the Nicaraguan opponent. and his partner.
«Agents from the crimes against life section are currently carrying out a total of 3 raids in different parts of the country, this with the purpose of arresting four people who would apparently be involved with the attempted murder of a subject of Nicaraguan nationality with the last name Maldonado and his wife with the last name Robleto,” declared the Costa Rican official.
The raids were directed towards Bajo Los Anonos, Barrio León XIII, Atillo and Alajuelita, four neighborhoods located in the Costa Rican capital. The authorities of that country seek to capture the suspects who have been identified with the surnames of Vargas, of Nicaraguan nationality, and the Costa Ricans García, 23 years old; Rivas, 27; and Quezada, 26 years old. All, according to the OIJ, with direct participation in the attack.

«At the beginning of the month of January, this subject named Maldonado apparently meets with a journalist of Nicaraguan origin named Aguirre in a hotel in the capital. After that meeting he leaves the site, from that moment on he is followed by a vehicle ‘i10’ that was apparently driven by a Nicaraguan subject with the last name Vargas, later, when the subject Maldonado arrives at a private university to do some paperwork and leaves that university, he is followed by some more subjects on a motorcycle,” explained the director of the OIJ.
The subjects who, aboard a motorcycle, pursue Maldonado once he leaves the university are the Costa Ricans García and Rivas, the latter who, according to the statements of the OIJ official, gets off the motorcycle and executes the shots at the opponent, causing seven gunshot wounds, and also wounding Robleto, who was in the seat next to the driver.
The fourth material author of the assassination attempt would be the Costa Rican Quezada who was in charge of carrying out the transfer of Rivas “who is supposedly the gunman,” Zúñiga explained.
In his statements, the director of the OIJ highlighted that this Tuesday’s raids are against the material authors, and that they continue investigating to establish who the intellectual authors are and stressed that they are also investigating the connections of the two Nicaraguans involved, with Nicaragua.
