An aircraft with 221 Brazilians repatriated from Lebanon landed at 5:55 am this Tuesday (29) at the São Paulo Air Base, in Guarulhos (SP). The information was confirmed, in a note, by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). This is the ninth repatriation flight for Brazilians from the conflict zone in Lebanon.
In addition to the group, the KC-30 model aircraft also brought a pet. Operation Raízes do Cedro, responsible for repatriation actions, began on the 2nd.
Three thousand want to return
Logistics involves the use of FAB aircraft and servers, in addition to coordination work via Itamaraty. According to the federal government, the Brazilian community in Lebanon numbers around 20 thousand people, of which at least three thousand have expressed a desire to return to Brazil.
At the end of September, Israeli bombings in Lebanon left two Brazilian teenagers dead – Mirna Raef Nasser, aged 16, and Ali Kamal Abdallah, aged 15. Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group have participated in border attacks since the start of the current war in the Gaza Strip last year, which began after an attack by Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah.
