The Brazilian women’s football team faces Colombia again tonight in Cariacica (ES), after a 1-1 draw last Saturday (26). The lineup of the starting team by coach Arthur Elias remains unknown, as the last training session on Monday afternoon (28), at Kléber Andrade, was only open to the press in the opening 15 minutes. What is certain is that the coach should test the players he called up for the first time again. The renewal of the squad is part of the strategic plans for the team’s participation in the next World Cup at home.

On Saturday (26), Arthur Elias took to the field five of the 13 new players on the call-up list: defender Vitória Calhau (Cruzeiro), and attackers Dudinha (São Paulo), Amanda Gutierres (Palmeiras), Gio Queiroz (Atlético de Madrid ) and Vic Albuquerque (Corinthians).

After a two-year absence without wearing hopscotch, Gio Queiroz returned to being the team’s starter in the first friendly match after silver in Paris. She remained on the field for almost an hour, until she was replaced by Dudinha, also a debutant under the command of Arthur Elias.

“Arthur is a coach who really likes pressure, intensity and I’m a player who also likes that, so I think our playing styles match. I’m very happy and I hope to stay here for a long time”, said the striker, formerly of Arsenal, who has lived abroad since she was a child. “I have to make the most of every training session, every game. It’s a new cycle, thinking now about now and also about the future, the World Cup, which is an incredible thing, even more so here in Brazil”, he concluded.

Current number 8 in the world, the Brazilian team remains undefeated in the last 12 clashes against Colombia (21st in the FIFA rankings), with 10 wins and two draws. But in the South American classic there is no favoritism. Brazil’s last two victories were by a minimum score (1-0): the first in the Copa América final in 2022 and the other in the Gold Cup, in February this year.

Contrary to Brazilian teamwhose majority of those called up play in national football, the The Colombian national team is full of players who play for clubs abroad. This is the case of 12 of Colombia’s 15 starters who faced Brazil on Saturday (26), including midfielder Usme, from Galatasaray – who opened the scoring against the team – and attackers Mayra Ramirez (Chelsea), Linda Caicedo (Real Madrid) and Mawela Pavi (West Ham).
