Blue Planet Award, more than 30 years showing examples

The delivery of the National Blue Planet Ecology Award 2024, organized by the Bank of the West, in its sixteenth edition it highlighted projects focused on the protection of water and its associated ecosystems.

Nearly 300 proposals were received focused on social, economic and environmental well-being, all of them analyzed by our specialized juries. “It gives us great satisfaction to see how more Colombians join initiatives that seek to have a bluer planet. Each contribution is a grain of sand that encourages us to conserve our water resources and adopt sustainable habits that benefit us in the future.“commented Gerardo Silva, president of the Bank of the West.

HE They chose four main categories for the projects distributed in the conservation and restoration of the water environment, the sustainable use of water resources, innovation and, finally, environmental education.

In centers of research, academia, schools and innovation hubs, the winner went to the Los Libertadores University Foundation for its project Design and implementation of treatment systems with dry biomass from water buchon for the treatment of effluents contaminated with heavy metals.

In the local foundations, NGOs and community organizations category, the winner was the Colombian Red Cross, Atlantic section, for its Flood Resilience project, which strengthens the response capacity of vulnerable communities to natural disasters.

Sustainability

In the entrepreneurship and small business category, first place went to Blue Carbon Reserve, for its carbon capture project, an example of how companies can integrate sustainability into their business models, directly contributing to the fight against climate change.

In the large and medium-sized companies category, first place was awarded to Bavaria for its Mi Páramo project.focused on the protection of the paramos, vital ecosystems for water regulation in Colombia.

Second place went to Inversiones El Paraíso Parque Cementerio, with its Sustainable Cemetery initiative, that redefines funeral practices under an ecological approach.
