The vice dictator and government spokesperson Rosario Murillo announced, this Monday, the arrival of the new ambassador of the Russian Federation in Nicaragua, Mikhail Nikolaevich Ledenev, who, she said, was received at the Managua airport by his son, Laureano «El Chigüin » Ortega Murillo, together with staff from the Foreign Ministry.
“The Government of Nicaragua received and welcomed comrade Mikhail Nikolaevich Ledenev, who will serve as the new ambassador of the people and government of the Russian Federation in the country,” Murillo reported.
«Today the dear comrade Mikhail Nikolaevich Ledenev has arrived in our country (…). We have welcomed him, he has been received at the airport by his colleagues from the Foreign Ministry, by his colleague Laureano (El Chigüin Ortega). Welcome partner,” the vice dictator reiterated effusively.
In addition, the government spokesperson called Putin’s new representative in Managua “family” and put Nicaragua at his disposal.

Ledenev replaces Alexander Khokhólikov as head of the Russian diplomatic mission, whom Murillo thanked for “the time dedicated to strengthening relations” between Nicaragua and Russia.
Khokhólikov began his diplomatic mission in Nicaragua on November 10, 2020. He officially presented his credentials on December 15 of that year and said goodbye officially on September 30, during an event held at the headquarters of the Russian embassy. where he said that relations between Moscow and Managua are of a “strategic nature.”

Various journalistic works have concluded that the strengthening of Russian-Nicaraguan relations at the level they call “strategic” is actually the use by the Russians of Nicaraguan territory as a regional espionage platform, commanded from the diplomatic headquarters located in the residential area.
