The workers’ union Petroperu announced that they will comply with a 48-hour strike, prior to an indefinite strikedue to the government’s delay in defining the new board. This without clarifying how the fact that Petroperú does not have its directors prevents the oil company’s workers from being able to carry out their duties.

As revealed Peru21the oil company union member Óscar Vera, is behind placing directors who prioritize the interests of the union. The bet is that the Executive appoints Alejandro Narváez as president of the board, who has railed against the previous board, minimizing the oil company’s problems.
“We have been having a big problem. We have not had a board of directors for more than 45 days. There is no definitive direction because we do not have a board of directors. Until today, the ministers have shown inability. We believe that it is a sabotage of the country’s largest company. The workers are tired of so much waiting, of there being no justification for the appointment of the board, with so many professionals who can take the direction of the company,” Luis Camino, general coordinator of the National Coalition of Petroperú Unions, told RPP.
“We are warning that there is a problem in Petroperú that is not being addressed. We are calling for a working group, the presidency and the premier to urgently convene us because it is necessary to articulate through dialogue what the solution is for Petroperú,” he added.

According to a statement, Petroperú workers will give the Executive a period of 72 hours to appoint a new board of directors and, if this is not complied with, they will begin a 48-hour national strike, prior to the indefinite general strike.
Luis Camino told RPP that there are “more than 1,000 workers” who will join the strike.
“We are not against anything. As long as the policies are clear and transparent. It cannot be that for a PMO the company has been warned, with defined names. We are talking about a private administration coming, which means that as a State We are incapable of taking the direction of the company,” he said.
He commented that the State owes more than S/16,000 million to Petroperú for “the stabilization fund, the VAT of the jungle, the insurance that does not pay for the spills from the continuous sabotage in the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline.”
