The oral trial against former president Martín Vizcarra for him Lomas de Ilo case and the Moquegua Hospital starts this Monday, October 28. The Public Ministry requests 15 years in prison for the alleged crime of passive bribery when the former president served as regional governor of Moquegua between 2011 and 2014. The session will begin at 9:00 am and will be in charge of the Fourth National Collegiate Criminal Court, led by Judge Fernanda Ayasta.
The case began in March 2021, after statements provided by aspiring effective collaborators before the office of prosecutor Germán Juárez Atoche. These statements made reference to alleged bribes from companies related to the ‘Construction Club’ case, which would be linked to the Lomas de Ilo Irrigation Project and the construction of the Moquegua Hospital.
During the aforementioned period, Vizcarra would have received a series of illicit payments from construction companies, according to the tax thesis. Such payments amount to 2.3 million soles.
