The video of the alleged attack against Evo Morales in the Tropics of Cochabamba has been analyzed by forensic ballistics expert Javier Romero, who suggests that the incident presents characteristics of a self-attack.
According to Romero, the trajectory of the shots and the condition of the vehicle suggest that the scene was carefully controlled.
“The trajectory suggests that the shot could have been fired from inside the vehicle or in a controlled environment. It is unlikely that, if the shots came from behind, a projectile would go through the rear window and hit the back of the driver’s head without causing further damage,” Romero observed, according to a report from the ABI agency.
This technical analysis adds to the suspicion that the incident could have been prepared to generate a perception of vulnerability in Morales, who faces prosecution for human trafficking and statutory rape.
