Fuad Nomam is elected mayor of Belo Horizonte

Candidate Fuad Nomam (PL) won the race for mayor of Belo Horizonte (MG), with 53.76% of the valid votes. He contested the second round with Bruno Engler (PL) who, so far, had 46.24% of the valid votes. So far, 96.07% of the ballots have been counted.

Fuad Noman is 77 years old, is a writer, economist and was a career civil servant at the Central Bank. He took over as mayor of BH after the resignation of Alexandre Kalil, who ran for governor of Minas Gerais. He was part of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government as executive secretary of the Civil House and of the government of Minas Gerais as secretary of Finance and Transport. At BH City Hall, he even commanded the Municipal Finance Department.
