Daniel Marcelo, former mayor of Trujillo, fought for his life for five months

A cardiorespiratory arrest ended the life of the three-time mayor of the La Esperanza district (2007-2018) and former mayor of Trujillo (2019-2020), who since May 31 had been fighting for his life against a severe lung condition, aggravated by his diabetic condition. His remains are laid to rest in block 6 of José Artigas Street, in the aforementioned district.

End of a leader

Born in Virú, Marcelo was the oldest of nine children and graduated in Civil Engineering from the Pedro Ruiz Gallo National University. Additionally, he specialized in Public Management at the National University of Trujillo, continuing his studies while serving as mayor of La Esperanza. In 2018, it was the main letter of Alianza para el Progreso (APP) for the Mayor of Trujillo. Then, the story is already known. He is the last elected mayor of APP in the MPT.

Víctor Merino also recalled the beginning of his brother-in-law’s political career, who ran for elected office up to four times before establishing himself as mayor. “He has been an example for all of us,” he said, highlighting his career in political movements such as Gallito, Chacana and Alianza para el Progreso.

Very complicated

A month before his death, Marcelo Jacinto’s health was critical. In an interview with this newspaper, his family doctor, Noé Anticona Solórzano, explained that he had lung surgery and that he had spent days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Although he managed to recover on several occasions, his situation continued to be delicate, exacerbated by the environment at home, which was not conducive to his recovery.

The impact of his death is felt in Hope. Officials from the district commune, public cleaning and public security personnel attended his funeral. Jorge Vejarano, a member of Avanza País, confirmed that the former authority fought with great vigor until the end.

The former regional governor of La Libertad Manuel Llempén Coronel expressed his regret through social networks, remembering their friendship and work together during the campaigns. “Eternally grateful for those elections and your dedication to serving the citizen. Many tasks together, always leading with your enthusiasm and confidence,” wrote Llempén, on his Facebook account, highlighting the legacy of dedication that Marcelo left.

Meanwhile, Martín Namay Valderrama recalled that two weeks ago he met again with the former mayor of Trujillo. It should be noted that Marcelo was one of the promoters of the political career of the current general manager of the Regional Government of La Libertad.

“Two weeks ago we talked because you had something important to tell me; I understood your message and was able to express my affection and gratitude. “I had faith that you would get through this, but God had other plans,” he commented.

The last time Daniel Marcelo referred to Namay, he mentioned that there was a separation. In the end, everything was resolved.

Marcelo’s funeral is scheduled for today at the Parque Eterno cemetery. However, those close to him indicated that there could be a change, since a relative who resides in Argentina wants to say goodbye to him. In that sense, the last goodbye would be this Monday.
