Today is the day: there are holidays, Halloween, Saci Day and campaign

Just like September 7th and October 12th, November 2nd, 2024 will also be a national holiday that falls on a Saturday. On this date, All Souls’ Day is celebrated. The date, reserved for a tribute to deceased loved ones, is considered a holiday due to Law No. 10,607 of December 19, 2002. The anniversary, as shown in this article from Reporter Brazil 2012, is also celebrated in other countries: Today is the day: there are holidays, Halloween, Saci Day and campaign

For some people, October 28th will also be “off”. This is because the date is considered an optional point on account of Public Servants Day. The date, which is a tribute to professionals who work in the federal, state and municipal public service, has some public offices closed and was highlighted in this article Brazil Agency in 2020.

Between Public Servants’ Day and All Souls’ Day, the week also has other dates that deserve to be highlighted. Three of them involve culture and folklore.

On October 29th, National Book Day will be celebrated. Implemented by Law No. 5,191 of December 13, 1966, the date highlights the importance of reading and refers to the founding of the National Library in 1810. Reporter Brazil highlighted the celebration in 2014 and 2017:

October 31st has three ephemerides. One of them is National Poetry Day. The date is a tribute to the birth of Carlos Drummond de Andrade (one of Brazil’s most famous poets) and was also highlighted in the Reporter Brazil, in this 2020 edition.

To haunt people (but very lightly), October 31st is also Halloween. Created on account of an Irish festival, the party is widely celebrated in countries such as the USA and Canada. In Brazil, the date is also celebrated. However, it is not the only one. On this day, Saci Day is also celebrated (which aims to value the Brazilian character). The two dates were highlights of these articles in the Reporter Brazil (in 2014 and 2017) and the National Radio Agency in 2023.

Two important dates for health awareness also mark the week. World Stroke Day, which takes place on October 29, aims to raise awareness about the prevention and rapid diagnosis of the condition (which is the biggest cause of deaths in Brazil). The date was highlight of Brazil Agency in 2022from the National Radio Agency in 2014 and the Reporter Brazil last year:

The beginning of November also marks the start of the Blue November campaign. Throughout the month, the focus is to raise awareness about the prevention of prostate cancer in men and demystify taboos about regular exams. Last year, the Brazil Agency and the Reporter Brazil discussed the subject:

An important date is still celebrated this week. October 28th marks 100 years since the beginning of a civil-military revolt formed by soldiers from the Tenentista movement and caudillos from the Aliança Libertadora, which would give rise to the movement known as Coluna Miguel Costa-Prestes. The movement and life of Luís Carlos Prestes were told in this edition of Reporting Paths 2022:
