The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) developed at the national level the Third Mega Cleaning Campaign “United for the conservation of our natural and cultural legacy”, with the participation of 1841 sentenced to Medio Libre, as part of the institutional strategy “Integrate your community, service that unites, work that restores.”

The The day was held in 26 cities in the country and was aimed at the conservation of our cultural heritage with the aim of contributing to the care of the environment.
The main activity took place in the Huaytapallana National Conservation Area, located in the peasant community of Acopalca, with the intervention of 100 sentenced people in cleaning tasks in the sectors of Virgen de las Nieves, Ismocruz, Carhuacocha lagoon, Yanaucsha, Bofedales and the viewpoint on the way to the glacier mass.
The campaign aims to encourage those convicted of Medio Libre to participate in community work and contribute to compensating for the damages caused to their victims. In this activity, the Regional Government of Junín, the Municipality of Huancayo, and the Centro Huancayo Regional Office of INPE supported the delivery of materials for waste collection, such as gloves, bags and others.
Likewise, Another 100 sentenced to freedom carried out cleaning and maintenance tasks in the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park of Cusco, tourist attraction that annually receives more than 10 thousand tourists, both national and foreign. Additionally, in the Lake Titicaca – Puno Natural Reserve, solid waste was collected and the area was left clean, benefiting the surrounding population, as well as tourists.
In Lima, the cleaning and maintenance of the Villa swamps and their surroundings that border Chorrillos beach was carried out, by 150 sentenced. In Lambayeque, 80 convicted persons participated in the cleaning of the perimeter fence of the Huaca Rajada Archaeological Center.
In Iquitos, 100 inmates from Medio Libre were in charge of cleaning and maintaining the Tourist Port of Belén. While in the district of Conchamarca, Huanuqueña de Ambo province, 40 wards carried out reforestation around the stadium.
In this way, the INPE Free Environment Directorate contributes to the conservation of natural areas, as well as the care of tourist areas through the community work of those sentenced to freedom.
