This Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Uruguayans will go to the polls to elect the rulers for the period 2025 to 2030. All people registered in the National Civic Registry who are eighteen years of age can vote. on the date of the national elections and who are authorized to vote.
With mandatory voting, without a higher age limit, in this Sunday’s elections we will vote for:
– President and vice president of the Republic.
– Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives
– Members of the Departmental Electoral Boards
– Project to reform article 11 of the Constitution
– Project to reform article 67 of the Constitution
Voting sheets
Uruguayans will be able to vote for the following voting sheets:
TO) A voting sheet that will contain the lists of candidates for President and Vice President of the Republic, for the Chamber of Senators, for the House of Representatives and for the Departmental Electoral Board.
B) A plebiscitary ratification sheet containing the YES vote for the project to reform article 11 of the Constitution, which refers to nighttime raids. This ballot will be yellow. (You can consult the text of this plebiscitary ratification sheet at the end of this publication).
C) A plebiscitary ratification sheet containing the YES vote for the project to reform article 67 of the Constitution, which refers to social security. This ballot will be white. (You can consult the text of this plebiscitary ratification sheet at the end of this publication).
For the constitutional reform projects (B and C), there will be no sheets containing the NO vote. The will against the approval of the reform is expressed by not placing the plebiscitary ratification sheet in the voting envelope.
They can’t vote
Observed votes will not be accepted because they are outside the department.
They must attend the circuit to which they belong and indicate their name and surname and the series and number of their credential.
People who have lost their credentials can vote if they appear on the registry or in the electoral forms booklet.
People who vote in these circumstances must necessarily appear on the registry or in the electoral register.
Blind or physically disabled voters
Those who find themselves in this situation may be accompanied to the secret room by a person they trust or a member of the vote-receiving committee, if they wish.
Voting sheets in the circuits
The availability of voting sheets in the secret rooms will be the responsibility of the political parties; Its delegates are in charge of supplying the circuits with sheets during election day.
In the event that the voter does not find the sheet they want, they can leave without voting and return at another time.
The Electoral Court will guarantee the existence of plebiscitary ratification sheets in each circuit.
About the annulment of the vote
When there is a cause for annulment, the entire contents of the envelope will be annulled, both voting sheets and plebiscitary ratification.
Proof of vote
As it is a mandatory election, a certificate of voting will be given to each voter. It is recommended that you review the information contained therein before leaving.
Fines
Persons who are qualified and do not vote in these elections may justify it for the following reasons: suffering from illness, disability or physical incapacity, being absent from the country on the day of the event or for reasons of force majeure.
Qualified persons who, without justified reasons, would not have voted, must pay the fine.
