Copardom warned about the high rate of road accidents in the country, the highest in the world and that until October of this year, 40,520 work accidents have been reported.
The Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel de Camps He stated that after the approval in the National Congress of the draft reform of the Labor Code, they would open a new tripartite dialogue to debate and achieve consensus on unemployment.
He indicated that in this bill all the articles were agreed upon and what they seek is that with its approval employees can enjoy these improvements, including clear rules on teleworking.
He expressed that other issues that should be debated after addressing the law, in addition to unemployment, are mental health at work and regulatory reform to achieve better care. They have also been reviewing workplace safety regulations and collecting ideas for improvement from different sectors.
De Camps offered these details during the opening of the XXII Copardom Congress on Occupational Risk Prevention.
At the event, Laura Pena Izquierdopresident of the Dominican Employers’ Confederation (Copardom) expressed that the entity has not asked that the Labor Code bill be withdrawn from Congress, but rather that it be given a space in the Senate so that they can hear the sector’s proposals on the layoff and notice.
On October 14, the Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Labor, deposited before the Senate of the Republic, the bill to modernize and update the Labor Code, which seeks to expand rights and improve relations between workers and employers. .
In another order, Peña Izquierdo expressed his concern about the high rate of road accidents in the country, which according to World of Statistics ranks first in the world with 65 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants.
He highlighted that Copardom seeks to develop collaborative schemes with the Dominican Institute for Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (Idoppril), to reduce these figures.
He said that between January and October of this year Idoppril has reported 40,520 work accidents, of which 22% occur in the industrial sector, 17% in commerce and 15% in accommodation, food and drink. He warned that it is worrying that 65% of reported accidents occur on the way to work.
