María Corina Machado described the event as “heartbreaking,” while Edmundo González Urrutia called for an investigation, because the country wants to know the truth. The human rights organization Provea said that this case could be a possible “extrajudicial execution and crime against humanity.”
Different political leaders have condemned this Friday the murder of Voluntad Popular (VP) activist Edwin Santos, which was denounced this same October 25 by that political party.
“We demand justice. I am very attentive to the investigation of this case. The whole country should know the truth. Edwin was a young man committed to democracy, to his family, to his community. “Venezuela wants and needs the truth,” wrote opponent Edmundo González on the social network X.
María Corina Machado, opposition leader, also referred to the case and described it as “heartbreaking.” “Edwin was a good, happy man. “Everyone loved him,” he expressed on Instagram.
Santos, in addition to being part of VP, was also director of the Con Vzla Command in the San Camilo parish, in Nula, which belongs to the Vente Venezuela organization founded by María Corina Machado.
Leopoldo López, one of the founders of VP, said they will not stop until those responsible are held accountable. «Edwin Santos, founder and leader of our party He was kidnapped, tortured and murdered by Maduro’s security services. He was a good man, a man of work and faith,” he indicated in X.

VP reported on October 25 that its leader had been missing since Wednesday, October 23 at 4:00 pm and that they learned that he was at the Dgcim headquarters located in Guasdualito until October 24. The party blamed the Government for the murder, in that sense, they indicated that Santos was in the hands of State security forces.
The Encuentro Ciudadano party also joined in the condolences anddemanded a serious, impartial and independent investigation that leads to clarifying the truth of the facts. “We continue together on the path to achieving justice,” reads part of the message.
The human rights organization Provea explained that this fact could mean “a possible extrajudicial execution and crime against humanity.”which could be added to those already investigated by the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela, as well as the Venezuela I investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court.
“We demand an urgent investigation that is independent and impartial to clarify this regrettable fact,” Provea requested on its X account, mentioning the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
