The Judiciary gave the green light to the request of former President Martín Vizcarra, investigated in the Lava Jato case, so that he can spend the Christmas and New Year holidays with his family, between December 24 and 31 of this year.
Vizcarra will travel to Moquegua on an air flight to Tacna, and from there he will travel to his destination, located approximately one hour away. During the journey, the former president will be accompanied by his security team.
The authorities have demanded that the former president report on his return and detail the activities he will carry out in his hometown once the celebrations conclude.
Failure to comply with these conditions could result in the reactivation of preventive detention measures.
Vizcarra assumed the presidency in March 2018 after the resignation of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, in the midst of a political crisis marked by allegations of corruption and pressure in Congress.
His government, however, was also involved in controversies, such as the “Vacunagate” case, where he was accused of having been vaccinated against COVID-19 irregularly and secretly, while he was still serving as president.
In addition to his involvement in the Lava Jato case, the former president has faced an investigation into “Vacunagate”, in which he is accused of having used his position to receive a dose of the vaccine before it was available to the population. general.

Last May, Judge Margarita Salcedo ordered the start of the oral trial against former President Martín Vizcarra, accused of receiving S/1 million in bribes from the Obrainsa company when he was regional governor of Moquegua (2011-2014).
According to the tax accusation, in 2013, Vizcarra required the company to provide 2% of the irrigation project called Lomas de Ilo, whose investment amounted to S/50 million 810 thousand 637, to facilitate the bidding by providing information so that participate in the contest organized by UNOPS.
