The authorities of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) condemned this Friday, October 25, in a statement, the intrusion of police forces into the campus and asked the State authorities to respect the autonomy of said institution.
“The university authorities categorically condemn the police intrusion into university spaces as constituting a flagrant violation of the autonomy enjoyed by the institution,” reads a part of the statement signed by the rector, Víctor Rago, by the administrative vice-rector José Balbino León, the academic vice-rector María Garcés and the general secretary Corina Aristimuño.

“The intervention of Dean Julio Molina, professors, students, and campus security officers prevented the students from being detained. It will be necessary to clearly establish the facts based on the report that has been requested from the Security Directorate. and by verifying the testimony of witnesses,” indicate the UCV authorities.
The university authorities demanded that those in charge of the State security bodies, “Given that this is not a unique case of police presence on the UCV campus,” respect the autonomous statute and have it respected by their subordinates in accordance with the laws. of the Constitution.
