Voters in the state of São Paulo will enjoy free rail and intercity bus transportation in the second round of municipal elections, on Sunday (27). The measure will be valid from 6am to 8pm in municipalities where there is a second round.SP voters will have free metropolitan transport in the 2nd roundSP voters will have free metropolitan transport in the 2nd round

It is not necessary to present a voter registration card or proof of voting to benefit from the free membership. The free service will be valid for metropolitan transport by Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), Empresa Metropolitana de Transportes Urbanos (EMTU) and Metrô, as well as at ViaQuatro and ViaMobilidade concessionaires.

According to the state government, on bus lines managed by EMTU whose route passes through municipalities where voting will take place, free access will be guaranteed. In the case of a line between municipalities without a second round election, there will be no free entry.

Both CPTM and Metrô will have reserve trains on standby at strategic points in case of fleet reinforcements. There will also be support from staff at the stations. At EMTU, the schedule of metropolitan lines will follow the usual schedule of Sundays and holidays, with the possibility of an increase in cars.

In the capital of São Paulo, the bus fleet will have 1,900 additional vehicles to facilitate public movement and access to voting locations, with the same fleet as on Saturdays (6,800 vehicles). There will be no fee charged, as is already the case on Sundays, in addition to dates such as São Paulo’s birthday, Christmas and New Year. The passenger must use their single ticket and go through the turnstile normally, without any credit discount.

According to the city hall, to improve movement around the city, the Open Streets program will be suspended in the second round. Both Avenida Paulista and Liberdade streets will be open to vehicle traffic. Elevado Presidente João Goulart will also be open for car traffic on Sunday.
