Both leaders made the commitment after meeting for about two hours at the Peace Palace in this capital, where the Malaysian president arrived the day before for a two-day official visit.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, Hun explained that they will cooperate on trade and investment, defense and security, tourism, education, labor and post-pandemic economic recovery.
We promised to continue promoting bilateral trade, health, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges with a view to boosting economic recovery after Covid-19, he said.
Likewise, both nations will collaborate in the development of human resources, work, digital and ecological economy to achieve long-term healthy growth and sustainable development for the benefit of the two peoples, he added.
According to official figures, the volume of trade between the two countries was valued at more than 500 million dollars in 2021, up from 442 million in 2020, and Malaysia was the third largest investor in Cambodia in the last five years.
We are pleased to see an increase in bilateral trade despite the disruptions caused by Covid-19. We expect our trade volume to keep increasing this year, he said.
For his part, Ismail said that Malaysia was interested in exploring business collaboration in the information and communication technology, financial technology, as well as the small and medium-sized business sectors in Cambodia.
Finally, he reiterated his support for the temporary presidency of Cambodia in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and promised to collaborate to maintain the centrality, unity, peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity of the bloc.
