Peru would exceed 80,000 million dollars in trade with the Asia-Pacific region

The most important event of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Forum (APEC) is approaching: the Leaders’ Summit, which will bring together presidents and top executives from the 21 economies that make up the economic bloc, in mid-November.

Peru, as host, aims to surpass the commercial exchange registered with APEC in previous years, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, told Gestión, who responded in writing to various queries.

“By assuming the presidency of APEC for the third time (after doing so in 2008 and 2016), Peru aimed to consolidate and strengthen its trade relations with member economies. The goal is to exceed $80 billion in goods trade with the bloc this year,” he noted.

If that figure is reached, the commercial exchange registered with the economic bloc in 2023 would be exceeded, when it was valued at 75,789 million dollars. This was equivalent to 67% of the country’s total trade exchange with the world last year and 68% of overall exports.

Of the 20 economies that are part of APEC, 14 already have Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with Peru.
