Corinthians and Racing Club tied this Thursday 2-2 under a heavy downpour and will define the pass to the final of the Copa Sudamericana in Avellaneda, after an even match in which Yuri Alberto, author of the two goals for the Brazilian team, stood out.
The Argentine team took the lead through Maximiliano Salas, but Yuri Alberto came back before the break for Ramón Díaz’s team, in a good game by the Dutchman Memphis Depay, who played the 90 minutes, gave an assist and touched the goal in the last breath.
But the Uruguayan side Gastón Martirena left everything the same at the start of the second halfwith an individual play to frame that had the collaboration of Agustín Almendra.
The second leg will be played next Thursday in El Cilindro de Avellaneda.
The one at the Neo Química Arena was an open meeting with options in both arcs. The intense rain that fell on the capital of São Paulo facilitated the spectacle, turning the grass into a real street runner with unpredictable consequences.
Racing surprised by hitting first on a bad clearance by Cacá, which inadvertently enabled Salas to head back. The 7th, at first, hit with his left foot and passed the ball over Hugo Souza in no man’s land.
Corinthians’ response was almost immediate and had Memphis Depay as the protagonist. The former FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid player went between three rivals and made a golden pass surrounded by opponents for Yuri Alberto, unmarked.
Oriented control of the Brazilian striker and definition of category by hitting the ball over Gabriel Arias.
The rain gained in intensity with a stalemate on the scoreboard. And in those moments Yuri Alberto received at the top of the area, looked for his space and launched a cross whip that was impossible for Arias’ stretch.
Double for a player always questioned in the ranks of Corinthians and who this Thursday hit the table. The only negative note of the first half for Corinthians was the injury to Venezuelan José Martínez, who left the field limping.
In the second half, the São Paulo team saw it done and forgot that they had a one of the most successful clubs in Argentina.
The revs dropped and Racing noticed it instantly. He had to do little to find the goal again. An inspired play by Martirena was enough.
The right back humiliated Garro With a tunnel, he cut Charles, made a draw with Almendra and shot low and cross from outside the area to make it 2-2.
Almendra almost certifies the comeback shortly after with a whiplash that Souza saved as best he could.
Corinthians had lost their way. Ramón Díaz exhausted all the changes in the 74th minute with the intention of recovering the lost momentum.
The albinegra squad improved in the last stretch, with Racing backing down and accepting the tie.
The Paraguayan Ángel Romero missed an empty goal, Alex Santana ran into Arias at the penalty spot and Depay, inside the area, wanted to adjust his shot so much that it didn’t hit the target. Avellaneda will decide.
