Switzerland renews sanctions against political operators of the dictatorship, including Murillo and several of his sons, for being corrupt and repressive

The Swiss government announced this Thursday that it has renewed the sanctions applied since 2020 against political operators of the Nicaraguan dictatorship, including Rosario Murillo and several of her children, and some institutions that have participated in the network of corruption and repression against the people of Nicaragua since the beginning of the political and social crisis of 2018.

The Swiss administration has sanctioned 21 political operators of the Sandinista regime led by Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo. The latter heads the list of those sanctioned, along with her children Laureano, Juan Carlos and Camila, Ortega Murillo.

In the official note from switzerland published on the website of the Federal Economic Affairs, it is specified that the Swiss Federal Council applied these sanctions in June 2020, and they have been renewed as of October 22, 2024, so they keep the order of prohibition of designated persons from entering Swiss territory. In addition, any bank accounts, checks or assets they have in that country should be frozen.

They also maintain in force the ban on companies and people from the European country so that they cannot establish business relations with any of those sanctioned. “In this way, Switzerland adheres to the measures adopted by the European Union,” which were announced on October 8 and extend until October 2025, the notification states.

Those sanctioned

The political operators of the Nicaraguan dictatorship have been sanctioned for participating in the repression perpetrated by the Ortega-Murillo regime since 2018, violations of the human rights of the Nicaraguan people and the undermining of democracy in the country.

Rosario Murillo was designated for being part of the dictatorship’s network of corruption and repression. The vice dictator has been sanctioned for encouraging and ordering repressive actions and human rights violations.

Laureano, “El Chigüin” Ortega Murillo has been sanctioned because he has been part of his father’s dictatorship and has justified and supported the arbitrary and illegal imprisonment of leaders of the Nicaraguan political opposition.

He has also participated in the corruption of the regime, using his father’s position as economic advisor to “sponsor and financially support repressive activities.”

Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Ortega Murillo, as owner of the ruling Channel 8, is part of the repression by violating freedom of expression and restricting freedom of the press in Nicaragua.

Camila Ortega, also the daughter of tyrants, has been part of the regime’s corruption from her position in her business called “Nicaragua Diseña” from which she supported the electoral fraud of November 7, 2021, “creating fake accounts on different media platforms.” “social”.

Those sanctioned also include Gustavo Porras, a political operator of the dictators who serves as president of the National Assembly, where the repressive laws have been approved.

Alba Luz Ramos, although she is currently de facto defenestrated by the tyrants, has been a key part of the repression as president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

Ana Julia Guido, the attorney general who directs what the international community and human rights organizations have called “the factory of false crimes” to sentence opponents to prison.

Another of those sanctioned is Francisco Díaz, director of the National Police and in-law of the tyrants, who is the main head of the repressive police subordinated to the dictators Ortega and Murillo.

More designated

Also included as sanctioned are Bayardo Arce, presidential advisor on economic affairs; the commissioners of the Sandinista Police Luis Alberto Pérez Olivas, Justo Pastor Urbina, Ramón Avellán, Fidel Domínguez Álvarez and Juan Antonio Valle Valle.

In addition, Néstor Moncada Lau, presidential advisor for security issues, remains sanctioned by Switzerland; Sonia Castro, former Minister of Health and current presidential advisor for health issues; Luis Ángel Montenegro, Superintendent of Banks; and Nahima Janett Díaz Flores, director of Telcor.

Closing the list are the magistrates of the Electoral Branch Lumberto Ignacio Campbell Hooker, Brenda Isabel Rocha Chacón and Cairo Amador Arrieta.
