During an operation carried out by the municipal police of the Pichanaqui commune, fish in poor condition as well as broken dishes were seized at the “La Hermana” restaurant. This was reported by municipal staff who were accused by the merchants of acting in an arrogant manner.
“We are going out to verify restaurants, chicken shops and other food sales establishments. “We have intervened in the restaurant (“La Hermana”) and we have found broken dishes and meat (fish) in poor condition, rotten, along with food in good condition, which is threatening the health of the diners,” said municipal agent Jesús Gutiérrez Velásquez.
Precisely this agent was denounced by the owner of the restaurant “La Hermana” for having verbally attacked him with profane words and for having orchestrated the operation out of revenge. “I was unloading merchandise from my niece who sells on public streets as a street vendor and they came towards me in an arrogant manner and lied to my mother. Since they couldn’t handle me, they intervened in my wife’s restaurant and gave her a ticket,” pointed out the businessman.
Asked about the issue, the head of the Municipal Police pointed out that the personnel in his charge must ensure not only the clearing of roads, but also the safety of the products sold in these establishments.
“The intervention is carried out at all times, we have found products in poor condition and the report was given for it. Every day municipal officials have to deal with these types of problems in the fulfillment of their function.”he pointed out.
In his defense, the owner of the restaurant pointed out that every Thursday they clean the refrigerator and the decomposing fish meat was on the side and not next to the meat in good condition. “Everyone is occupying the sidewalk, the sidewalk is free to sell, why aren’t they going to bother everyone or make everyone uncomfortable?” pointed out the owner of the restaurant.
The head of the Municipal Police pointed out that his agents fulfill their function of ensuring compliance with the rules. “If you present me with evidence that there was a lack of respect, the agent will be sanctioned.”he indicated.
