Rats in the ISSSTE hospital? That's what the PAN-CDMX says

“And worse in a hospital where there are vulnerable patients, this represents a very high risk as it can be fatal, without forgetting the contamination of medical equipment and food: Rats can also contaminate sterile medical materials, medications, food or water, which can endanger both patients and staff,” he said.

The PAN member assured that the ISSSTE has been the subject of many complaints from patients and medical personnel.

“Situations ranging from elevators that fall, lack of hygiene in medical units due to austerity, shortage of medicines and now we find out that there are also mice that put those hospitalized there at risk,” he explained.

Claudia Pérez indicated that the presence of rats in a hospital is due to a lack of control in hygiene and sanitation measures, which can seriously affect the trust of patients and the public in the services offered by ISSSTE.

He also highlighted that the presence of rats can cause damage to infrastructure, as rodents can bite electrical cables and equipment.

“It is not a minor matter, it is a matter of public health and it is a shame that the former head of Government does not take this issue seriously, since the ISSSTE also has stores that sell supplies and everything that is also there, may be contaminated,” he said.
