The sale of fireworks would have a good end of the year. The president of the Sector of Importers and Traders of Products Pyrotechnics of Recreational Use of the Guild of Services of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Juan Piiroja, indicated that the commercialization of these devices could increase between 10% and 15%, compared to 2023.

Likewise, he assured that the import of pyrotechnics reached the sum of US$ 3,631,560 last year. Piiroja indicated that, by September 2024, purchases of these products exceeded US$ 2,780,588, which represents 74.58% of what was invoiced in 2023.

Although these figures are significant, Piiroja believes that there will not be significant growth, despite Christmas and New Year.

In that sense, he pointed out that the growth of this sector will depend on the National Superintendency for the Control of Security Services, Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives for Civil Use (Sucamec) granting more authorizations to hold trade fairs nationwide.

“If this process is not facilitated, informal trade will continue to grow, which will result in more clandestine sales and greater police persecution for the seizure of these products,” he indicated.

The leader explained that although there are legal fireworks companies, they are unable to present their products at authorized fairs. In that sense, he indicated that if they accumulate more than 25 kilos, they are outside the law due to regulations that prohibit selling more than that amount.

Finally, he pointed out that annual sales of fireworks reach US$ 12 million, but that most of that amount corresponds to the informal sector.

He also denounced that there is trafficking in fireworks on the border with Bolivia.

“In the regions, informality predominates, especially in border areas like Bolivia, where fireworks trafficking is important,” he stated.
