Mother of political prisoner suffers stroke after learning of her son’s beating

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The mother of the Cuban political prisoner Duannis León Taboadasentenced to 14 years in prison after the protests of July 11, 2021, suffered a stroke this Wednesday upon learning that his son was beaten and taken to a punishment cell in the Combinado del Este prison, in Havana.

The news, confirmed on Facebook on several pages of activists and human rights observatories, specified that Jenni Taboada She is conscious and “in a position to communicate,” and remains hospitalized at the 26 Clinical Surgical Hospital.

The mother of the political prisoner was placed on a metal stretcher in a hallway of said hospital.

According to the activist’s Facebook profile, Tania Tase (“Las Taniadas”), Taboada is accompanied by Arián Cruz Álvarez, known as Tata Poet, and they urgently need to find a hospital in Havana that is performing Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scans and a neurologist who can care for the woman.

Furthermore, he warned the regime: “Do not prevent this mother, who has suffered so much and bravely faced them, from receiving the medical care she needs. Take your son out of the punishment cell and let him call you. It is the best for everyone because the situation can worsen.”

Duannis explained that a guard woke him up with a knock, which led to him having to meet with the head of internal order, “Arisleidi.” When he was meeting with the head of internal order, a re-educator threw him to the floor while he was handcuffed. “I have a bruise on my nose and face,” he explained.

Jenni Taboada has taken to social media to demand the release of Duannis and the rest of the political prisoners at numerous times.
