The Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps, stated that, after the approval in the National Congress of the project of reform of the Labor Codewould open a new tripartite dialogue to debate and achieve consensus on unemployment.
He indicated that in this bill all the articles were agreed upon and what they seek is that, with its approval, employees can enjoy these improvements, including clear rules on the telecommuting.
He expressed that other issues that must be debated after addressing the regulations, in addition to unemployment, are the mental health at work and the reform of regulations to achieve better care. They have also been reviewing the regulations of safety at work and they are collecting ideas for improvement from different sectors.
He minister of labor He highlighted that, after more than 100 work sessions of the Labor Advisory Council, the Legal Technical Table and tripartite meetings, the Dominican Republic will have a modern law that will strengthen the rights of workers and employers, with greater capacity to generate jobs and increase productivity and competitiveness.
“It is the product of consensus between workers and employers. Now it is up to Congress to make what was agreed a reality and modify this law, which is more than 30 years old, to provide the country with modern regulations in line with the expectations of workers and employers,” the official highlighted.
He declared that, with this labor reform, a step is taken towards modernizing the regulations, incorporating new rights, recognizing existing ones, expanding others and, above all, strengthening the Ministry of Labor so that it has greater capacity to enforce labor legislation. .
De Camps offered these details during the opening of the XXII Copardom Congress on Occupational Risk Prevention.
At the event, Laura Peña Izquierdo, president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom), expressed that the entity has not asked that the bill be withdrawn from the Labor Code of Congress, but rather that it be given a space in the Senate so that they can listen to the sector’s proposals on layoff and notice.
