The Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), which measures the preview of official inflation, was 0.54% in October this year. According to data released this Thursday (24) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the IPCA-15 accumulates a rate of 3.71% for the year. In 12 months, the accumulated rate reaches 4.47%, above the 4.12% recorded in the September preview.

In the October preview, the rise in the IPCA-15 was driven mainly by the group of housing expenses, which had inflation of 1.72%, driven mainly by the 5.29% increase in residential electricity. The reason is the validity of the red tariff flag level 2, from October 1st.

Food also had an important impact on the IPCA-15 rate, with a price increase of 0.87%, due to increases in products such as strip steak (5.42%), ground coffee (4.58%) and long-life milk (2%), in addition to food away from home (0.66%).

Other expense groups with rising prices were health and personal care (0.49%), personal expenses (0.35%), communication (0.40%), household items (0.41%), clothing (0 .43%) and education (0.05%).

Only the transport expenses group showed deflation (price drop) of 0.33%. The result was mainly influenced by air tickets (-11.40%), urban buses (-2.49%), trains (-1.59%) and subways (-1.28%).
