The report shows a general deterioration in most regions, reflected in the increase in homicides, crimes, traffic accidents and a greater perception of insecurity.

“The high crime and violence in the regions with the greatest population and economic activity is alarming, which indicates that economic growth is not being accompanied by effective policies against citizen insecurity,” the institution’s report warned.

The data reveal that, during the years analyzed (2016-2024), Metropolitan Lima experienced a 30% reduction in the security component, due to the increase in violent crimes and organized criminal activities. On the coast, the contraction was 11%, while in the mountains and the jungle there were decreases of 15% and 14%, respectively.

Luis del Carpio, director of the Master’s Degree in Competitive Development Management at Centrum PUCP, pointed out that the well-being of households is being threatened by malnutrition, anemia and crime. “It is urgent to implement more effective policies,” he indicated.
